Many hypnotherapists reach a point where scripts and standard protocols no longer feel quite enough. You may find yourself working confidently with straightforward presenting issues, but wanting a deeper understanding of why certain approaches work well with one client and not another. You may want to work more flexibly, think more critically about your interventions, and feel more confident when working with complex issues.

Advanced Practitioner Training & Professional Development for Experienced Hypnotherapists

This Advanced Hypnotherapy Practitioner Training course has been designed for experienced practitioners who want to deepen both their practical skills and their clinical thinking. Rather than simply teaching additional techniques, the course focuses on helping you understand the reasoning behind what you do, so that you can adapt more thoughtfully to the individual client in front of you.

The course is delivered as self-paced distance learning, allowing you to fit study around practice, work, and family commitments. Unlike many home-study advanced courses, support is built into the programme from the start, including unlimited email support and up to four hours of individual tutorial time with the course tutors.

The Advanced Hypnotherapy Practitioner Course offered by Yorkshire Hypnotherapy Training and Phoenix Therapy has been assessed and accredited at Advanced Practitioner level by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (UK). Graduates from this training (with appropriate experience in practice) are eligible for professional registration with the GHSC at Advanced Practitioner status.

Who Should Take An Advanced Practitioner Course?

This course is designed for qualified hypnotherapists who already hold practitioner-level training and want to continue developing their skills beyond entry-level practice.

It will particularly appeal to therapists who:

  • want to move beyond rigid scripts and protocol-based work
  • would like greater confidence when working with more complex clients
  • are interested in understanding the evidence and reasoning behind therapeutic approaches
  • want to integrate ideas from different therapeutic models more thoughtfully
  • enjoy reflective learning and professional development
  • are considering Advanced Practitioner registration with the GHSC/GHR

The course assumes prior practitioner-level knowledge and is not suitable as an initial training course in hypnotherapy. Please visit our Hypnotherapy Training Website if you are just beginning your career as a hypnotherapist.

What Makes This Advanced Hypnotherapy Course Different?

Many advanced courses fall into one of two categories. Some are relatively inexpensive self-study courses with little ongoing support. Others include large amounts of live or recorded teaching, but often at significantly higher price points. This course was designed to sit between those two models.

You will receive a substantial 317-page training manual, a separate portfolio workbook, structured assessment and feedback, and direct access to tutor support throughout the course. Rather than committing to weekly calls you may not need, or that may be at an inconvenient time, you can book your tutorial time when it’s most useful to you. Support includes:

  • Unlimited email support throughout the course
  • Up to four hours of individual tutorial time (two hours with each tutor)
  • Detailed marking and feedback on portfolio submission
  • No expiry date or completion deadline

Many students find that flexibility particularly valuable when balancing study with clinical practice and other commitments.

Advanced Hypnotherapy Practitioner Training FAQ

As the course is self-paced, study time varies between students. The minimum  recommended time is 25 hours, but many practitioners are likely to spend longer if they choose to explore the wider reading and research literature included throughout the course. There is no time limit for completion.

The course includes up to four hours of individual tutorial time, which can be booked with either tutor at times that suit you. Many students find this particularly useful when working through more complex topics or assessments.
Unlimited email support is also included throughout the course.

No. Tutorials are one-to-one, allowing you to focus on the areas where you would most value support or discussion. They can be booked in 30 or 60 minute blocks.

The course is the equivalent of UK Level 5-6. It is academically informed and encourages reflective and critical thinking, but it has been written in accessible language for practising therapists rather than academics. No previous academic experience is required.

Assessment is portfolio-based and includes multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions, client vignettes, reflective work, and a Personal Development Plan.

You may choose a printed certificate, PDF certificate, or both.

This course is designed for practitioners who already hold a recognised practitioner-level hypnotherapy qualification and have some experience of working with clients. It is not intended as an entry-level training course.

No. The course is open to suitably qualified hypnotherapists from any professional body.

The course is based on the GHSC Advanced Practitioner framework and has been accredited by the GHSC, but practitioners from other organisations are welcome to attend. If you are interested in how the qualification may affect your membership status with another professional body, we recommend checking with them directly.

Successful completion of the course makes students eligible to apply for Advanced Practitioner status with the GHSC/GHR, subject to their additional experience requirements.
It may also allow you to progress to higher membership levels in other professional bodies, but please check with them before enrolling.

Course materials are provided as immediate digital downloads following enrolment.
