Terms & Conditions of our free courses
By enroling in any of our free courses, you are agreeing to be signed up for our monthly newsletter, full of hints, tips and training opportunities. And more importantly discounts for other courses on this site! You can unsubscribe from the newsletter - and the discounts - at any time and keep the course.
You are welcome to sign up for more than one free course if you wish, but as the three month deadline is from the date we send out the course we'll send them out one at a time so you are not chasing multiple deadlines.
You are not obliged to undertake any additional training with us, although if you are interested in learning more you will find we offer other courses on a variety of topics, all of which are listed on this site.
The free courses come with free email support for three months from the date we send them to you. If you complete the course within this time frame you will also receive
- free feedback on your completed workbook
- a free certificate of completion emailed to you in pdf format
If you complete the course more than three months after it has been sent to you, you will, of course, still have all the knowledge and information within it.
If you want us to give support, feedback on your workbook and/or a certificate after the 3 month deadline, an admin charge of £15 will be made to cover our time.

About using metaphors in therapy
"The logic of the emotional mind is associative; it takes elements that symbolize a reality, or trigger a memory of it, to be the same as that reality. That is why similes, metaphors and images speak directly to the emotional mind." Daniel Goleman, (1996) Emotional Intelligence. Bloomsbury, London [p.294]
We all love stories; as children, listening to, reading or watching stories is one of our favourite things to do. We like fairy stories, stories about our families, and our parents when they were young; all kinds of things that help us relate to our social and physical environment.
When you work with metaphors, you are essentially telling your clients a story. Just like stories, metaphors can draw us into them, provoking strong emotional responses, and they appeal to that part of our unconscious mind which is still childlike and enjoys learning in this way.
About this therapeutic metaphors course
This lively one day course encourages learners to embrace free thinking, employing enjoyable team and group activities to unlock imaginative potential and inspire creative metaphor. The day is split in two. A playful interactive (foundation) morning preparing learners for therapy-focused metaphor application in the afternoon.
Balanced group team and pair work ensures everyone benefits continually from the creative input and support of fellow team members.
We will explore the visual and verbal, competition and quiz, hands on creative activity (don’t worry there’s no drawing). There’s lots of humour, storytelling and ad-libbing, making good use of the Native American talking stick.
Our Aim is to;
- Discover and unleash creativity you didn’t know you had
- Translate it into words and images
- Use the same as a foundation for creative metaphor
- Apply the metaphor within the therapeutic environment
There's no assessment, but a Certificate of Attendance is issued to support your CPD record.
This course is accredited as CPD by the ACCPH.
Author/Presenter: Tracy Farr spent many years in design before qualifying in hypnotherapy, now she employs the invaluable ‘out of the box’ methods (the early foundations of her creative training) to inspire metaphor in her script writing and creative teaching.

Improve your Hypnotherapy Skills
Why train with us?
The National Occupational Standards and Core Curriculum for Hypnotherapy set out what you should cover in your initial training. Not all practitioner courses work within these guidelines. Even where they do, there is time allowed for trainers to introduce their own specialities and interests, so although they have content in common different courses do tend to place emphasis on different areas. However experienced you are, you can join our Practitioner course at any venue (numbers permitting) to brush up or revise skills you already have, to learn new ones or to update your training after a break in practice. We have weekend and weekday classes in the Wakefield and York areas.
